Invasive shrubs threaten our local parks & woods. Come on out and make a difference

The fast-growing invasive buckthorn shrub is spreading out of control in our local parks and woodlands. It is edging out native plants and threatening the safety, diversity and vitality of our urban forest.

Our target location is:

With your help, we can stop the invaders

Join your neighbors at an upcoming buckthorn removal event. (Buckthorn Bust) In just one to two hours your help will make a big difference. We’ll target the female plants with berries/seeds first.

It’s Easy!

Working as a team, volunteers will use the cut-stump removal method to remove and kill buckthorn.

  • One person will cut the buckthorn down.
  • One person will drag it to a disposal area where it will be fed in to a wood chipper and mulched.
  • One person will apply an herbicide to the freshly cut stump. This will kill the plant.
